Newark, N.J. – Black Girls Rock! delivers every time when it comes to uplifting and celebrating Black women and girls on a massive level. Founded as a youth empowerment program for young women in 2006, Black Girls Rock’s! founder, Beverly Bond’s partnership with BET is earning Black women trailblazers a heighten visibility, as the awards show becomes a cornerstone in Black women’s history and culture.
Black Girls Rock! 2017 celebrated Black women and girls who are taking their respective industries by storm despite fear and hatred. Hosted by the incomparable Taraji P. Henson, Black Girls Rock! 2017 honored Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Grammy Award-winning singer Roberta Flack, actress Issa Rae, actress and activist Yara Shahidi, Wall Street powerhouse Suzanne Shank and community organizers Derrica Wilson and Natalie Wilson.
The Black Girls Rocks! 2017 Red Carpet came alive on August 5 as #BlackGirlMagic took over the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. While stellar Black women advocates, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and performers radiantly graced the red carpet in their standout looks, the United States Black Chambers, Inc.
